HUWAG KUKURAP SA HARAP NG MGA CORRUPT!

Our Philippines has been rocked by a series of corruption scandals involving government people the past few weeks. The grapevine has been rife with whispers of uniformed personnel in cahoots with a carnapping syndicate which mercilessly butchered and later burned their hapless victims with car tires. Then such was followed by the presently-raging unraveling of corruption in the AFP, involving former Chiefs of Staff. "So what's new under the sun?" jaded observers would quip. Nil. EXCEPT, out of the maelstrom comes HEIDI MENDOZA. Unsurprisingly, cynical minds would again quip "Is she and her intentions as pure as she wants to portray?" And there's the catch: Does she really have the moral ascendancy in going through her present quest? Well, to all and sundry, Saul of Tarsus, before his Damascus was the epitome of the persecutor of Christians. Yet, he became Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, appointed by none less than the Christ himself. Who knows if, or when, or how Ms. Mendoza had her own Damascus? Is she the new Joan of Arc, or maybe the reincarnation of our very own  inimitable Haydee Yorac? Or another potential dud in our seemingly endless battle versus corruption? Yet, undeniably the stink of the corruption she has outlined in the Senate sanctum surely reaches even up to highest heaven's. Whatever Heidi Mendoza is, what she brings out into the open is bigger than her: CORRUPTION which has long been festering in our country's soul. If only for that, I'm willing then to throw my support behind her. May she indeed have had her own Damascus before she decided to walk the valleys and alleys of darkness, because it's only in knowing real darkness that one will eventually have the courage to follow what matters most: the light of right and truth. May Heidi not blink. But also equally important, may we also not blink in the face of corruption. HUWAG KUKURAP SA HARAP NG MG CORRUPT!
