Good Friday. We remember the Passion and Death
of Christ. Which reminds us that ours is a faith of humility,
redemptive suffering, courage, and love. As Jesus himself said that a
student can't be greater than his/her Teacher, nor a servant greater
than his/her Master, thus, from its earliest times, our Church has been
one of martyrs, witnesses of their faith in Jesus, THE Teacher, THE
Master. Of people who calmly faced death
through the lions in the Roman arenas; of those who were hanged on
crosses AND were burned so as to light the Via Appia; of Peter who
chose to be crucified inverted; of Paul beheaded at Nero's behest. But
things don't end there. After Good Friday, necessarily comes Easter,
resurrection. Thus, as one of the simple lay Catholics, whatever my
being Catholic brings, commends, and commands, I fear not, because
Christ himself assured "I will be with you, till the end of time." Happy
Good Friday indeed! Onwards to Easter Sunday!
