I
am for the CONVICTION and REMOVAL of CJ Corona from office. I'm not a
lawyer, but as a citizen (and not one who has any personal rancour
versus the CJ), I believe that the defense of NOT INCLUDING IN HIS SALN
98% of his assets OUT OF GOODWILL (if only we base it on his
perorations and not even consider Ombud Morales' statements as hostile
witness of the defense) insults even the simple/common sense
of any citizen. There's no need to belabor the fact that one doesn't
become Chief Justice without the requisite intelligence to see the
simple fact that the FCD law is addressed to the BANKS and not the
DEPOSITORS. Ergo, not only I think he is wrong as matter of "CULPA," but
even as matter of "DOLO". Not only was he remiss, but he was remiss
INTENTIONALLY. For that, he must be CONVICTED and REMOVED from office.
ALSO, some quarters say that public will musn't be heeded by the Senator-judges, but instead must instead heed their individual consciences lest they be
guilty of mob mentality, thus also be guilty of simply being pragmatic
in the name of political survival, especially that next year is election
year. But to heed the voice of the lifeworld ISN'T ACTUALLY ETHICALLY
ASKEW after all. German thinker Jurgen Habermas says that the lifeworld
itself has an innate wisdom which AUTHENTIC PUBLIC LEADERS must be
sensitive to, not simply because they're politically pragmatic or
prudent but primarily because they are supposed to be THE defendants of
the public weal. Political philosopher John Rawls also speaks of PUBLIC
REASON, which he deems to be of PRIME CONSIDERATION because again,
PUBLIC REASON is authentically reflective of the public welfare, and not
just of self-serving interests of any group. Thus, if the
Senator-judges are to heed the at-least 65-70% of the public-at-large
clamoring for the CONVICTION and REMOVAL of the CJ, then they are indeed
doing their PUBLIC DUTY as PUBLIC SERVANTS, and thus they authentically
have PUBLIC REASON and are also DEFENDERS OF THE PUBLIC WEAL. Lastly, I
pray, as I've just burned 12 candles now for my prayers, that whatever
the decision of the of the Senate Impeachment Court today, may we, as a
state and people, remain to be resilient, ever vigilant, effortful, and
hopeful for a better future as a matter of duty and birthright of each
and everyone of us. SALUS POPULI EST SUPREMA LEX! ALANG-ALANG KAY INANG
BAYANG MAGILIW! GOD BLESS US ALL!
